MIXED MEDIA SCULPTURE

ORGANIC SERIES

Made of cellulose fibers over metal armature the upward movement of the sculpture suggest emergence and growth. The surface is treated with ground black pepper to resemble the stone-like texture of a boulder. There is a union of opposites of organic and non-organic elements just like in nature.

The Eye of Horus, the all-seeing eye of protection and prosperity inspired this sculpture, Organic in its nature, in its form, and its materials, it is a perfect dwelling companion to a conscious living lifestyle.

An Idea of a knot - a handful of threads intertwined - always fascinated me. A knot perplexes some presenting an obstacle, while others may be excited by the challenge of trying to find the ends and to untie it. There may be many ends to seek, but hardly one-ended knot presents an opportunity to untie. Instead, it invites one to follow the curves and imagine the other end, just like a road with the end beyond horizon. Perhaps, it is a path to Yourself.

The inspiration for this sculpture came from the Greek myth about hydra, depicted in the famous Hellenistic sculpture known today by its marble Roman copy of Lakoon and His Sons, dated approximately 200 BC, excavated in the XVI century.
Despite the obvious struggle between three humans and a serpent, its overall composition inspired many artists and poets. Being one of them, I created an abstracted version of hydra’s movement and omitted the figures. The final sculpture continues the narrative of ancient artefacts raised to the surface of the sea reminding of bygone civilizations and as well as the plastic debris in the oceans, a mark left by our contemporaries.
